1TERRIBLE!!!  Jul 10, 2004

It's not enough that this sprayer costs as much as it does, but Wagner has decided that you should pay them in order to continue to use this product after you buy it. How so? It is more than obvious to me that Wagner has purposely made a part in this machine called a "swirl valve" out of cheap plastic that wears out very, very quickly. Being a vital part, you must replace it- and they're expensive! This way the company continues to drain your wallet.
It is also underpowered and will often "spit" the paint out instead of spraying it. It is best to just do it the old fashion way with rollers and brushes; it's cheaper, more efficient, and good exercise.

4fast and fun  May 13, 2006
By Red
What a joy. This tool requires experience. Best fit for the jack of all trades. I use it to paint whole houses and "what a finish". But this is the pampering it needs. Thin paint just a little if using the long hose. And especially clean not only the plunger every 4 gallons (takes 5 minutes to clean), but the inner houseing inside the gun, where the plunger and spring pass through. If this isn't clean it will cease and break the spring. But dont fret, 20 bucks will get you and new spring and plunger and she's good as new. So much easier than a roller, especially on rough finish. Staining and Exterior only. Inside use a wagner roller mate and spend more time rolling and no time in the bucket or pan.

1Trouble with a Wide Shot Power Painter  Sep 02, 2004
By Richard S. Standley
This wide shot power painter was a gift, so I didn't buy it, but I'm sorry anyone spent any money on this thing. I was using this sprayer to spray a fence. I followed all manufacturer's directions on setup, testing the paint to make sure that it wasn't too thick, set the sprayer up to use in a five gallon bucket, and so far so good until I started using the sprayer. If I reached too far with the sprayer, the hose came out of the bucket, sprayer goes dry and I had to take it apart, clean it and put it back together. Sometimes the sprayer decides to just spit the paint out. Watch out for the extension cord. As I moved along the fence, I had to hold on to my bucket, the hose going into to the bucket to make sure that the hose stayed in the bucket, and also hold on to the extension cord so that everything moved when I moved. After taking the sprayer apart to clean the piston a few more times, and having the sprayer alternate between spraying paint and spitting the paint, I threw the sprayer over the fence onto my patio, and adjusted the sprayer with a sledge hammer, then tossed this power painter in the trash.

3Works as advertized!  Jul 12, 2004
By Hilow "Zorro!"
Painting is an odieous task. Spraying or rolling painting simply blows.
This painter, saves time and paint for outdoor projects or hall closets.
I tried to use it for doing my house and it is too much work even doing an empty room means at least taping the carpets. For huge rooms stick to a roller, it is faster and neater.

For closets this thing is worth it.

1Not that it doesn't work  Oct 14, 2007
By Tim
The problem is not that this product doesn't work--it's just that it only works for a few minutes. As another reviewer noted, critical components are made of cheap plastic. The paint tends to sputter very easily, and the compressor is prone to seizing up. Disassembling and soaking the various parts tends to restore matters for a small while, but the same problems tend to recur after just a few minutes of spraying. I found that on average it took about four to five times as long as a roller to paint to paint a section of wall. Consequently, I've had to ration the precious few minutes between soaks to paint hard to cover areas such as corners and vent grilles. If this product could paint reliably for even ten minutes I would have found it very useful, but the two or three minutes of effective use between soaks is not very cost effective. If you need to use a sprayer, rent a much more reliable one. No need to pay $100 or so for this white elephant.
