Great CO alarm Aug 02, 2010 I owned a similar Kidde carbon monoxide Alarm which after 7 years started to sound the low-battery warning. I replaced the batteries only to discover that low batteries weren't the problem. Apparently, Kidde designs their product to automatically become obsolete after 7 years (maybe this is a way to insure additional sales).
Beyond the 7-year forced replacement issue, I'm very happy with the unit.

False alarm Jun 19, 2010 this thing woke us up at 2 in the morning... kept going off so we called the fire department. we sat out on our porch for 2 hours talking to a policeman and fire chief while we waited for the gas company and a sherifs deputy to show up with testing equipment! LOUSY machine!!! they couldn't find any problems, but the gas man said to set it outside in the fresh air to reset. Don't you know, started going off again (outside) while we were trying to catch up on our sleep. We've only had the thing for about 2 months. My husband just put it together and mounted it on the wall a few weeks ago, so it should be in tip top shape!

Convenient and Very Practical Oct 21, 2009 I own this detector for 1 1/2 years before I have to replace batteries. You don't realize how convenient it is to have the battery compartment at the front until you start replacing batteries of the existing smoke and carbon mono detectors in your house. Most of those installed in our house needs 9 volts rectangular batteries which are not easy to find and expensive. This needs 3 regular size "AA" batteries. We also have high ceilings, so I have to use higher stools or ladder to replace them. The battery access is at the back so I need to remove the unit from the ceiling first. It is easy to remove them with a single twist, but once you replace the battery, re-installing them is a nightmare. This unit saves you a lot of frustration and heartaches because you don't have to remove it at all and all you need to do is flip the front battery cover and you are done.
Instruction is attached to the back, so you don't have to worry about losing them. 4 quick beeps signal an alarm condition. Single beep every 30 seconds indicate low battery.
Simple design. Looks good.
